Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) - Summary
- Provide independent anesthesia care across a wide range of medical and surgical procedures.
- Support adult, pediatric, obstetric, and geriatric patient populations in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Serve as a critical team member, collaborating with healthcare professionals while exercising clinical autonomy.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Independently manage patient anesthesia care without direct physician supervision.
- Conduct thorough pre-anesthetic assessments, obtain informed consent, and order necessary diagnostic tests and medications.
- Develop, implement, and adjust individualized anesthetic plans based on patient needs and procedure type.
- Perform immediate pre-induction assessments, reviewing patient medical records and current health status.
- Administer anesthesia and monitor patient responses throughout surgical and medical procedures.
- Maintain physiological homeostasis and quickly respond to abnormal reactions to anesthesia.
- Collect, interpret, and act on physiological data using noninvasive monitoring techniques.
- Manage airway and pulmonary status during procedures, including advanced airway interventions as needed.
- Oversee patient recovery and emergence from anesthesia, focusing on effective pain management and prevention of complications.
- Administer medications, fluids, and ventilator support as required to maintain patient stability.
- Accurately document all anesthesia-related events, including medication dosages, fluid administration, and patient responses.
- Complete post-anesthetic visits and record any anesthesia-related complications for quality assurance and patient safety.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
- Graduate of a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Programs (COA).
- Permanent, full, and unrestricted RN license and CRNA license.
- Valid license to practice as a CRNA in any U.S. state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.
- Certification by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) or the National Board for Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
- Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS). BLS, ACLS, and PALS must follow American Heart Association or American Red Cross guidelines.
- Minimum of two years of active CRNA practice within the last six months.
- Experience must include General Anesthesia and Obstetric (Neuraxial) Anesthesia.
- Background in Intensive Care Nursing.
- Proficiency in full-spectrum anesthesia care: General, Regional, Neuraxial, and Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC).
- Experience with adult, pediatric, obstetric, and geriatric populations in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
