Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) - Summary
A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) is responsible for delivering therapeutic interventions under the direction and supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist. The primary focus of the COTA is to assist patients in regaining independence and functionality in their daily lives. Duties & Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Occupational Therapists to create and implement individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient's needs and goals.
- Lead and assist patients through therapeutic exercises and activities designed to enhance mobility, alleviate pain, and promote skill development.
- Monitor, assess, and document patient progress, ensuring accurate and timely updates to the clinical team and medical records.
- Educate patients and their families about at-home exercises, self-care strategies, and adaptive techniques to encourage ongoing recovery and independence.
- Utilize comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, therapeutic modalities, and rehabilitation techniques to optimize patient outcomes.
- Conduct routine screenings of residents to determine the need for referral to Occupational Therapists as appropriate.
- Gather and provide objective clinical data to Occupational Therapists as permitted by the scope of practice.
- Deliver occupational therapy treatments to residents in accordance with the established plan of care and under OT supervision.
- Actively participate in the success of the rehabilitation department, interdisciplinary teams, and overall facility objectives.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Associate of Science degree in Occupational Therapy Assisting from an accredited program.
- Current and valid COTA license in the relevant state (FL required for this position).
- CPR certification (required).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and team members.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities to handle clinical responsibilities efficiently.
- Proficiency with technology and electronic health record systems.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, rehabilitation practices, and patient care protocols.

- Previous experience in skilled nursing facilities (SNF) or long-term care (LTC) is preferred, but new graduates are welcome to apply.
