Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant (PA-C) - Summary
- Provide surgical and clinical support to cardiothoracic surgeons in all phases of patient care.
- Deliver evidence-based, high-quality care in inpatient, outpatient, and operative settings.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
- Act as an instrumental member of the surgical team in all aspects of cardiothoracic care.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons in the operating room, including first and second assisting on cardiothoracic surgeries such as coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repair/replacement, thoracic aortic procedures, and lung resections.
- Perform pre-operative and post-operative patient evaluations, including history and physical examinations, diagnostic assessments, and development of care plans.
- Manage and monitor patients in intensive care and step-down units, including chest tube management, wound care, and removal of temporary pacing wires.
- Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests related to cardiothoracic conditions.
- Educate patients and families regarding procedures, post-operative care, recovery expectations, and health maintenance.
- Document all patient care activities in accordance with hospital and regulatory standards.
- Participate in clinical rounds and present patient cases to the surgical team.
- Respond to emergent situations and provide life-saving interventions as necessary.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program; current certification as a PA-C required.
- Active and unrestricted Physician Assistant license.
- Experience in cardiothoracic surgery or critical care preferred, but new graduates with relevant rotations are encouraged to apply.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
