As a Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) Locum Tenens, you will be an integral member of the cardiac and thoracic surgical team, directly participating in a broad spectrum of cases including, but not limited to, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), aortic valve replacement, mitral valve replacement, minimally invasive cardiac surgeries, aortic dissection repairs, thoracotomy, video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS), and robotic thoracic procedures. This role encompasses a full continuum of patient care, including first assisting in the operating room, perioperative management in the intensive care unit (ICU), inpatient rounding, and outpatient clinic responsibilities.
The contract duration ranges from six months up to one full year and includes comprehensive support such as paid travel, mileage, rental car, and malpractice coverage. Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) Locum Tenens - Summary- Full-time contract opportunity within a major cardiac surgery program
- Direct involvement in advanced cardiothoracic procedures
- Comprehensive perioperative care including ICU management, rounding, and outpatient follow-up
- Exposure to cutting-edge surgical approaches and multidisciplinary collaboration
- Serve as first assist for all cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgical cases
- Perform endoscopic vein and radial artery harvests, femoral artery cut downs
- Oversee daily rounds on ICU, floor, and consult patients; write progress notes and orders
- Order and interpret laboratory and radiologic studies relevant to patient care
- Manage critically ill patients in the ICU, including placement and removal of central lines, arterial lines, IABP, and chest tubes
- Counsel patients on treatment plans, preventive medicine, diet, and postoperative care
- Collaborate with attending physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
- Attend and participate in weekly clinics, seeing new consults and postoperative patients
- Monitor postoperative patients within a PA-run clinic setting
