The Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) will work closely with surgeons, intensivists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety and quality care from pre-operative assessment through post-operative management and discharge planning.

Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) - Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
- First assist in a variety of cardiothoracic surgical procedures such as CABG (coronary artery bypass grafting), SAVR (surgical aortic valve replacement), and other open and minimally invasive operations.
- Perform endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) and radial artery harvesting as required for surgical procedures.
- Deliver comprehensive perioperative care, including participation in daily ICU and floor rounds, patient assessments, and progress documentation.
- Provide occasional coverage in office-based patient visits to support continuity of care.
- Manage on-call responsibilities, including after-hours and weekend coverage, as part of a shared team rotation.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless patient handoffs and collaborative care planning.
- Maintain meticulous medical records and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the department.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) with a focus on surgical care.
- Active state license and DEA certification required for practice in Virginia.
- Documented experience in cardiothoracic surgery, including first-assist roles and proficiency in EVH.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
