As a critical member of the cardiac surgery team, the Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) will be entrusted with a broad continuum of care, from preoperative assessment to intraoperative first assist and postoperative management. The role requires proficiency in endoscopic vein harvesting and hands-on experience in first-assisting during cardiac surgeries. The scope of practice includes but is not limited to working on procedures such as transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVRs), coronary artery bypass grafts (CABGs), off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery, and valve repairs or replacements.

Approximately 50–60% of the Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C)'s time will be spent in the operating room, collaborating closely with surgeons and other clinical staff to ensure optimal surgical outcomes. The remaining time involves comprehensive patient care responsibilities, including conducting preoperative consultations, managing postoperative recovery, and coordinating ongoing care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The role demands a high level of autonomy, clinical judgment, and commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
