The Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) plays a critical and dynamic role within a high-volume cardiac surgery program. As a valued member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) works directly with cardiac surgeons and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive perioperative patient care. This opportunity is available as a contract position, with the possibility for ongoing assignment and extension based on mutual interest and program needs. The role is designed for Physician Assistants who are passionate about cardiothoracic surgery and are committed to providing high-quality care for patients undergoing complex cardiac procedures.
The Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) will be integrally involved in the daily operations of the cardiac surgery department, supporting patient care in both the operating room (OR) and across preoperative and postoperative settings. Approximately 50-60% of the role’s responsibilities will be dedicated to direct assistance in the operating room, working closely with experienced cardiac surgeons. The Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) will contribute to a growing program that performs over 300 heart surgeries annually, gaining exposure to a broad spectrum of cardiothoracic cases and advanced surgical techniques.
Outside of the OR, the Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) will manage a range of clinical and administrative duties that ensure seamless patient care. Daily activities include responding to patient care inquiries, completing clinical documentation, ensuring that essential imaging and lab results are available for upcoming cases, and facilitating smooth transitions of care. This role also involves rounding on patients in both the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and general inpatient floors, collaborating with nursing and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes. The Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) is responsible for progress notes, consults, discharge summaries, and placing required orders for labs, imaging, and other diagnostics to support patient management.

Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) - Summary- Contract opportunity for a Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) in a busy cardiac surgery program

- Proven experience in cardiothoracic or cardiac surgery settings preferred
- Knowledge of electronic health record systems, preferably Epic
