The Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) supports cardiothoracic surgery services by providing preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative patient care. The role requires mastery of both clinical and surgical techniques, as well as the ability to collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. The Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) is instrumental in ensuring continuity of care and superior patient experiences throughout the surgical journey. Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive preoperative assessments, including history taking, physical examination, and evaluation of diagnostic studies for patients scheduled for cardiothoracic surgery.
- Collaborate with attending surgeons to develop and implement perioperative care plans tailored to individual patient needs.
- Assist in the operating room during all stages of cardiothoracic procedures, including first and second assisting, tissue retraction, suturing, graft harvesting, cannulation, and closure.
- Monitor patients' hemodynamic status and respond to intraoperative events in partnership with the surgical and anesthesia teams.
- Manage postoperative patient care, including monitoring for complications, performing wound care, and managing chest tubes, drains, and central lines as instructed.
- Document all aspects of patient care, including operative reports, progress notes, discharge summaries, and consultation notes, in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
- Provide patient education regarding procedures, recovery, and ongoing care, ensuring clear communication for patients and their families.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, continuing education activities, and departmental meetings to maintain the highest standards of patient care.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, infection control procedures, and ethical standards at all times.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program with current certification (PA-C) required.
- Valid and unrestricted state license to practice as a Physician Assistant.
- Prior clinical experience in cardiothoracic or surgical settings strongly preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of cardiothoracic surgical procedures, anatomy, and physiology.
- Excellent clinical assessment, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
