Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) - Summary
- Provide advanced practice support for cardiothoracic surgical services in a hospital setting.
- Perform a full continuum of care, including OR first assist, ICU management, and perioperative patient assessment.
- Locum tenens assignment with scheduled and on-call responsibilities.
- Work alongside experienced surgeons and healthcare providers in a collaborative environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- First assist in cardiothoracic surgical procedures, including coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG), valve repairs/replacements, and aortic repairs.
- Provide intraoperative, preoperative, and postoperative patient management in both the operating room and intensive care unit settings.
- Conduct daily patient rounds, develop care plans, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Participate in scheduled weekday shifts (8 hours) and weekend rounding (4 hours) with on-call coverage as assigned.
- Perform and assist with a wide variety of procedures, including but not limited to:
- Ablation and atrial/maze procedures
- Bronchoscopy (rigid/flexible)
- Bypass grafts (coronary artery and femoral-femoral)
- Pericardial window creation
- Sternal debridement and exploration
- Excision/resection of chest and mediastinal masses or tumors
- Mediastinoscopy
- Valve repairs/replacements (mitral, tricuspid, aortic)
- Robotic-assisted thoracoscopy and excisions
- Thoracoscopy (VATS) and thoracotomy
- Maintain accurate documentation and support quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care to all patients.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current Physician Assistant (PA-C) certification and licensure to practice as a PA in the United States.
- Documented experience in cardiothoracic surgery and perioperative care.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
- Experience with procedures listed in the job description strongly preferred.
- Ability to provide coverage for scheduled shifts, weekends, and on-call assignments.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
