The position of Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) offers a rewarding opportunity for a highly skilled healthcare professional to join a leading cardiac surgery team in Raleigh, NC. As part of a collaborative and supportive cardiac surgery group, the Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) will play a crucial role in the successful delivery of adult cardiac surgical services and ongoing patient care management.
The Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) will primarily focus on assisting surgeons as a first or second assistant during adult cardiac surgical procedures. The role emphasizes hands-on experience with endoscopic vein harvesting and encourages candidates with additional skills such as radial artery harvest, although this is not required. Outside of the operating room, the Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) will contribute significantly to patient care on the hospital floor and in clinic settings, ensuring that patients receive continuous, attentive, and expert care throughout their surgical journey.
This position offers a balanced work-life schedule, with the Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) working Monday through Friday and only one weekend on-call every six weeks. The call schedule is structured to promote a sustainable and manageable workload, with the expectation of one weekday operating room backup call per week (or two weekdays every fourth week) and one weekend call every four weeks. To ensure prompt response times, the successful candidate should reside within a reasonable distance to the workplace.
The cardiac surgery group currently includes three experienced surgeons and manages approximately 500 heart surgeries annually. The Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) will join a dedicated team of three operating room PAs and two advanced practice providers who support patient care on the floor and in the clinic.
