The Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, participating in approximately 600 heart cases annually. You will be responsible for a broad range of clinical tasks, including preoperative consultations, surgical first assisting, postoperative care, and ongoing patient management. The position requires a flexible schedule, with varied shift patterns and on-call coverage, ensuring continuous, high-quality care for cardiac surgery patients. Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) - Summary
- Serve as a key team member in the management of cardiothoracic surgery patients.
- Deliver care across the full continuum: consultations, OR, ICU, step-down, and clinic settings.
- Contribute to an average of 600 cardiac surgery cases per year.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive patient care in the operating room, assisting in cardiothoracic procedures as a surgical first assist.
- Perform endoscopic vein harvesting using the Maquet system.
- Round on patients in the ICU and step-down units, managing acute and post-operative care needs.
- Conduct patient consultations, preoperative assessments, and postoperative follow-ups in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Collaborate with attending surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and ancillary staff to coordinate patient care.
- Document patient encounters and care plans accurately in the EPIC electronic medical record system.
- Participate in on-call coverage, including weekends and after-hours, to ensure continuity of care.
- Respond to urgent and emergent patient needs as part of the surgical team.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and training as required.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) from an accredited program.
- Valid state licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant.
- Proficiency in endoscopic vein harvesting, specifically using the Maquet system, is required.
- Demonstrated experience as a surgical first assist in cardiac or cardiothoracic surgery.
- Familiarity with EPIC electronic medical record (EMR) system preferred.
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including 10- and 12-hour rotations, and participate in on-call coverage as needed.
