The role of a Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) offers an exceptional opportunity for physician assistants with cardiothoracic surgical expertise to make a significant impact in an inpatient setting. This position is designed for highly skilled professionals who are adept at working autonomously within the operating room (OR) and intensive care unit (ICU), and who are committed to delivering top-quality patient care during critical perioperative periods. Employment in this role provides a dynamic, fast-paced environment where teamwork, advanced clinical skills, and flexibility are highly valued.
As a Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C), you will be responsible for supporting cardiothoracic surgeons and the clinical team in delivering comprehensive care to patients undergoing complex heart and lung procedures. The position involves a hybrid schedule of on-site shifts and on-call coverage, ensuring continuous patient care and support throughout the perioperative period. The work schedule typically includes 10 consecutive days per month, providing both daytime and nighttime coverage. Arrival at the hospital is usually required between 6:00 to 6:30 am, with responsibilities continuing until all patient care tasks are complete, typically around 3:00 pm. After the completion of daily duties, you will transition to on-call status for the remainder of the day and night, offering prompt response to emergent patient needs.
One of the key aspects of this role is the focus on inpatient care—including the OR and ICU settings—without outpatient clinic responsibilities. Your primary duties will include vein harvesting, assisting in surgical procedures, perioperative patient management, and hospital rounding. The role requires a strong commitment to patient safety and quality outcomes, as well as the ability to adapt to the demands of a rotating schedule. Your expertise will be instrumental in supporting surgical teams and ensuring seamless continuity of care for cardiothoracic patients.
Candidates for the Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) position must have an active license and meet all state requirements for practice. The onboarding process includes a credentialing period to ensure compliance with hospital standards. Preference is given to candidates who are already licensed and familiar with local protocols, although all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply. This is an ideal opportunity for advanced practice providers seeking a rewarding career in a supportive, high-acuity environment.
