The Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) role centers on providing advanced operating room assistance for heart surgeries, with a focus on coronary artery bypass grafts (CABGs) and valve procedures. This position presents an excellent opportunity to contribute to a thriving surgical program, offering mentorship to PAs with at least two years of experience, and playing a key part in the education and support of the surgical team. The assignment features a strong teaching component in the operating room, and while some intensive care unit (ICU) responsibilities may be included, the primary focus remains on hands-on surgical support and education. The team utilizes advanced technologies, including Maquet equipment, to deliver state-of-the-art care in a fast-paced environment performing 6-8 heart surgeries per week. Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) - Summary- Contract assignment supporting a busy cardiothoracic surgery department
- Focus on operating room first assist for heart surgery procedures
- Leadership and educational support for physician assistants with at least two years of experience
- Contribution to a 30+ year established CT surgical program with a strong collaborative team
- First assist in a variety of cardiothoracic surgeries, including CABGs and valve repairs or replacements
- Deliver education, mentorship, and hands-on support to less experienced physician assistants in the operating room
- Collaborate with two experienced cardiac surgeons and a team of three PAs to provide seamless patient care
- Utilize Maquet surgical equipment and adhere to best practices in cardiac surgery
- Participate in patient management, preoperative and postoperative care, and some ICU duties as required
- Support ongoing program development and resource allocation as surgical volume increases

- Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) with a valid, unrestricted license
- Significant experience (preferably several years) in cardiothoracic surgery, particularly as a first assist in the operating room

- Familiarity with Maquet or similar surgical equipment preferred
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities within a multidisciplinary team
