As an integral member of a dynamic team, you will provide advanced care across the full continuum of cardiothoracic surgery, including both operating room (OR) and intensive care unit (ICU) settings. Our heart surgery program is recognized for its high volume and complexity, performing approximately 600 heart surgeries and 250 thoracic surgeries annually. The acuity of cases is extremely high, offering unparalleled clinical exposure and the opportunity to develop advanced skills in cardiothoracic care. As a Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C), you will be central to patient management and will have the opportunity to work with a dedicated team that values autonomy and expertise. Advanced Practice Providers are the backbone of our care model, ensuring patients receive the highest level of attention and support throughout their surgical journey.
Multiple roles are available, including full-continuum care positions, as well as ICU-only and OR-only opportunities. Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) - Summary- Advanced practice role providing perioperative and critical care for cardiothoracic surgical patients
- Opportunities in both full-continuum care, ICU-only, or OR-only settings
- High-volume, high-acuity heart and thoracic surgery program
- Work alongside an interdisciplinary team in a supportive, learning-focused environment
- Deliver comprehensive cardiothoracic care in both the OR and ICU settings
- Assist in preoperative evaluation, intraoperative management, and postoperative care of surgical patients
- Perform patient assessments, develop care plans, and implement therapeutic interventions
- Participate in surgical procedures, wound care, and management of surgical drains and lines
- Respond to patient emergencies and provide advanced life support as needed
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, surgeons, and multidisciplinary team members
- Document clinical encounters promptly and accurately in the electronic medical record

- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) by the NCCPA
- Valid and unrestricted state license to practice as a Physician Assistant
- Experience in cardiothoracic surgery, critical care, or related specialty strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills
- Experience managing high-acuity cardiothoracic patients in a surgical or critical care environment
- Comfortable working autonomously in both OR and ICU settings
- Strong commitment to patient-centered care and safety
- Desire to grow professionally in a fast-paced, high-volume program
- Adaptable, with a passion for continuous learning and skill development
- Block scheduling (6-week cycles) with rotation between ICU and OR
- OR shifts are 10 hours; ICU shifts are 12 hours
- Overtime compensation after 37.5 hours per week
