We are seeking a dedicated Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) for a full-time opportunity with a leading and high-volume cardiothoracic surgery program. As a Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C), you will be instrumental in providing perioperative care to patients undergoing complex cardiac and thoracic surgeries. You will be actively engaged in all stages of patient management, from preoperative preparation through postoperative care. Our program, which performs more than 1,500 heart surgeries each year, offers a fast-paced and stimulating setting for experienced professionals to excel and expand their scope of practice.
Your primary responsibilities will include first-assisting in the OR, where you will participate in procedures such as coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve repairs and replacements, heart and lung transplants, and advanced mechanical circulatory support (MCS) interventions. You will be responsible for conduit harvesting (vein and artery) using endoscopic or open techniques, and play a vital role in the management of patients requiring left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
In addition to OR responsibilities, you will provide critical care management in the ICU for post-surgical patients. This includes performing invasive procedures such as line placements, chest tube insertions, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) management, and supporting the cannulation process for ECMO. The care model is APP-driven, empowering you to make significant clinical decisions and contribute to the multidisciplinary team approach for optimal patient outcomes.
The schedule for the Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) position is designed to support work-life balance while ensuring comprehensive patient coverage. Providers may spend certain weeks focusing exclusively in the OR with four 10-hour shifts, while ICU weeks typically consist of three 12-hour shifts. Weekend coverage is equitable, with providers typically working two out of every six weekends. This flexible scheduling structure supports both professional development and personal well-being.
