Working as a Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C), you will be responsible for the comprehensive management of post-operative cardiothoracic surgery patients. Your scope will include delivering care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Progressive Care Unit (PCU), and Telemetry Unit, ensuring continuity and consistency throughout the perioperative and recovery phases. In addition to direct patient care, you will engage in emergency room consultations, inpatient consultations, and play a vital role in the planning, coordination, and execution of postoperative and post-discharge care plans. Your surgical expertise will be utilized in both cardiac and thoracic procedures, including first assist responsibilities and advanced vascular harvesting techniques.

Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA-C) - Summary
- Advanced practice provider role in cardiothoracic surgery
- Primary responsibility for post-operative patient management in ICU, PCU, and telemetry settings
- Full-time position in Boston, Massachusetts, with rotational coverage for nights and weekends
- Key contributor to a multidisciplinary healthcare team
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations for post-operative patients
- Document daily progress notes and discharge summaries
- Conduct inpatient and emergency room consultations, including new admissions
- Plan, coordinate, and manage all aspects of post-operative and post-discharge care
- First assist in cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures, including both open and minimally invasive approaches
- Perform endoscopic vein and radial artery harvest, as well as open radial artery harvest
- Support robotic thoracic surgeries, ensuring optimal patient outcomes
- Manage post-operative care for cardiac and thoracic surgery patients, including advanced monitoring
- Proficiently place and remove chest tubes, central and arterial lines
- Remove temporary epicardial pacing wires, Swan-Ganz catheters, intra-aortic balloon pumps, sutures, and staples
- Participate in rotational coverage for inpatient telemetry, PCU, OR, and on-call schedules
- Collaborate with advanced practitioners to provide 24/7 in-house care and first assist coverage

Qualifications & Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Current licensure as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) in Massachusetts
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in cardiothoracic surgery
- Experience managing post-operative cardiothoracic surgery patients in intensive care settings
- Familiarity with ventilators, inotropes, vasoactive medications, and circulatory support devices
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Strong documentation and communication skills
