Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit Physician Assistant (CTICU PA) - Summary
- Provides specialized care for postoperative cardiothoracic surgical patients in the intensive care setting.
- Works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including surgeons, intensivists, nurses, and ancillary staff.
- Performs comprehensive patient assessments, procedural assistance, and care coordination for critically ill adults.
- Ensures high standards of clinical care and patient safety at all times.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed patient assessments, including history taking, physical examinations, and diagnostic interpretation.
- Initiate, adjust, and monitor therapeutic interventions in collaboration with attending physicians.
- Assist with or perform invasive bedside procedures, such as central line placement, arterial line insertion, and chest tube management as credentialed.
- Monitor and manage hemodynamic status, ventilator settings, and pharmacologic therapies for CTICU patients.
- Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds, providing clinical updates, recommendations, and care plans.
- Coordinate transitions of care, including patient admissions, transfers, and discharges in accordance with established protocols.
- Educate patients, families, and staff regarding disease processes, postoperative expectations, and therapeutic regimens.
- Document all patient encounters, interventions, and progress accurately in the electronic health record.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, protocol development, and continuing education within the CTICU.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current Physician Assistant (PA) license and certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Minimum of one year experience in cardiothoracic surgery, critical care, or intensive care setting preferred.
- ACLS and BLS certifications required; PALS certification may be beneficial depending on patient population.
- Strong clinical judgment, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
