In this dynamic position, the Cardiothoracic ICU Physician Assistant will play a pivotal role in managing patients in both the cardiac surgery intensive care unit and stepdown units. The responsibilities focus on the care of patients who have undergone coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) or valve surgeries. The position does not require involvement in ventricular assist device (VAD) or cardiac transplant management, nor does it include time in the cardiovascular operating room (CVOR). Instead, the emphasis is on post-operative and critical care management, ensuring patient safety, stability, and progress through the continuum of care.
Working as a Cardiothoracic ICU Physician Assistant provides the opportunity to collaborate with a well-established team that values balanced scheduling and a supportive, patient-centered approach. The role involves a rotating schedule, including three thirteen-hour shifts weekly, with one weekend shift and one set of nights per month. Cardiothoracic ICU Physician Assistant (PA-C) - Summary- Provide advanced clinical care to post-cardiac surgery patients in the ICU and stepdown settings
- Work as an integral member of a multidisciplinary cardiac critical care team
- Support the hospital’s mission of delivering outstanding, evidence-based patient care
- Manage and monitor CABG and valve surgery patients in the cardiac ICU and stepdown units
- Perform advanced assessments, develop treatment plans, and provide ongoing patient management
- Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to optimize patient outcomes
- Respond to clinical changes and acute patient needs with prompt, evidence-based interventions
- Document all care provided in accordance with hospital protocols and regulatory requirements
- Participate in rounds, handoffs, and multidisciplinary discussions to ensure seamless patient care
- Adhere to all hospital policies, safety standards, and quality improvement initiatives
- Engage in continuing education and skills development relevant to cardiac critical care
- Work a rotating schedule including 13-hour shifts, weekends, and night coverage as assigned
