We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Cardiothoracic Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) / Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join a dynamic cardiac surgery team at a leading level one trauma center in Chicago, Illinois. This full-time role provides a unique opportunity to work within a high-acuity environment, supporting cardiac surgery patients throughout the entire continuum of care. As a key member of the team, you will play an integral role in both the Cardiothoracic Operating Room and Critical Care settings, ensuring optimal patient outcomes in a collaborative and supportive environment.
This position offers a rotational schedule, allowing the Cardiothoracic Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) / Physician Assistant (PA-C) to gain comprehensive experience by alternating monthly between the Operating Room and the Intensive Care Unit/Step Down unit. In this role, you will provide advanced care to patients who have undergone a wide variety of cardiac surgical procedures, including those requiring mechanical circulatory support. Successful candidates will demonstrate expertise in perioperative and postoperative management, as well as the ability to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care in a fast-paced setting.

Cardiothoracic Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) / Physician Assistant (PA-C) - Summary
- Full-time advanced practice provider position supporting cardiac surgery patients through all stages of care.
- Rotational schedule between Cardiothoracic OR and ICU/Step Down units, providing a comprehensive clinical experience.
- Work within a high-acuity, multidisciplinary heart surgery team at a level one trauma center in Chicago, Illinois.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver advanced patient care to cardiac surgery patients in the ICU, Step Down, and Operating Room settings.
- Perform comprehensive assessments, develop treatment plans, and participate in daily patient rounds.
- Coordinate care for patients requiring mechanical circulatory support and other advanced cardiac procedures.
- Collaborate with surgeons, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure best practices in patient care.
- Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures, postoperative expectations, and recovery processes.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to ongoing clinical education.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Master’s degree from an accredited school/college of nursing (for ACNPs) or from an accredited Physician Assistant program (for PA-Cs).
- Current, valid license as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Illinois or as a Physician Assistant in Illinois.
- Certification as an ACNP by a nationally recognized certifying body (for Nurse Practitioners).
- Acute Care certification required for APRNs.
- Eligibility to apply for a controlled substance license and DEA number upon licensure.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in Cardiac Surgery Operating Room and ICU settings.
