The Cardiac Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) / Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is a vital member of the cardiac surgery team, providing expert intraoperative assistance and perioperative support to ensure optimal patient outcomes. As a Cardiac Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) / RNFA, you will demonstrate a high level of clinical expertise, independence, and adaptability in the operating room. The surgical team you will join is collaborative and supportive, with three dedicated CVOR rooms and three experienced cardiac surgeons performing approximately 45 cases per month. The scope of procedures includes both routine and highly specialized cardiac operations, offering exposure to a broad spectrum of surgical interventions and the latest advances in cardiac care.
This position is designed for professionals who thrive in dynamic environments and are motivated by challenging, hands-on roles that require quick thinking, technical proficiency, and a positive, team-oriented attitude. The assignment is structured as a 13-week contract with a strong likelihood of extension, reflecting the ongoing demand for expert surgical assistance in this leading cardiac program. Work hours are scheduled Monday through Friday with occasional back-up and on-call responsibilities, ensuring a predictable routine while maintaining flexibility for urgent surgical needs.
Essential technical skills include extensive experience with both off-pump and on-pump coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) cases, aortic and mitral valve replacements and repairs (AVR, MVR), tricuspid valve repair (TVR), full maze procedures, minimally invasive and thoracoscopic approaches, pacemaker placements, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), pericardial window creation, and management of ascending aortic dissections requiring subclavian cannulation. Candidates with robotics training, especially in thoracic surgery, are highly preferred, as this adds significant value to the surgical team’s capabilities.
