The Cardiac ICU Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) plays a pivotal role within the cardiothoracic intensive care unit, providing advanced clinical care and expertise for patients with complex cardiovascular conditions. This opportunity is a contract-based assignment, designed for experienced advanced practice providers seeking to expand their clinical portfolio and contribute to a dynamic, high-acuity critical care environment. The position is based in San Francisco, CA, allowing healthcare professionals the chance to work in a city renowned for its vibrant medical community and diverse patient population.

The Cardiac ICU NP or PA will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, including cardiac surgeons, intensivists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other allied healthcare professionals, to ensure the delivery of exceptional patient care. This role requires acute critical care skills, particularly in the management of patients post-cardiothoracic surgery and those requiring advanced mechanical circulatory support (MCS), such as ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation).

Candidates for this contract position must possess a valid California license and have a proven track record of working in cardiothoracic operating rooms (CT OR), cardiovascular intensive care units (CVICU), or with MCS as an advanced practice provider (APP). The assignment is structured with flexibility in scheduling, offering options such as 3:12-hour shifts per week or a block schedule of 6 days on followed by 8 days off, including the expectation of at least one weekend per month and a blend of day and night shifts. The absence of on-call requirements supports a healthy work-life balance while maintaining a high standard of patient care delivery.

This contract role will commence in November 2025 and is designed to last for an initial period of sixteen weeks, with the possibility of extension based on mutual agreement and institutional needs. The compensation package is competitive and all-inclusive, reflecting the advanced skill set and experience required for this critical care assignment.
