The Cardiac ICU NP or PA will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, including cardiac surgeons, intensivists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other allied healthcare professionals, to ensure the delivery of exceptional patient care. This role requires acute critical care skills, particularly in the management of patients post-cardiothoracic surgery and those requiring advanced mechanical circulatory support (MCS), such as ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation).
Candidates for this contract position must possess a valid California license and have a proven track record of working in cardiothoracic operating rooms (CT OR), cardiovascular intensive care units (CVICU), or with MCS as an advanced practice provider (APP). The assignment is structured with flexibility in scheduling, offering options such as 3:12-hour shifts per week or a block schedule of 6 days on followed by 8 days off, including the expectation of at least one weekend per month and a blend of day and night shifts. The absence of on-call requirements supports a healthy work-life balance while maintaining a high standard of patient care delivery.
This contract role will commence in November 2025 and is designed to last for an initial period of sixteen weeks, with the possibility of extension based on mutual agreement and institutional needs. Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver expert clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management to critically ill cardiac patients.
- Implement and oversee advanced cardiac life support, including management of patients on ECMO and other mechanical circulatory support devices.
- Participate actively in daily multidisciplinary rounds, collaborating with physicians, nurses, and allied health staff.
- Monitor and document patient progress, adjust care plans as needed, and communicate effectively with families and the healthcare team.
- Ensure adherence to evidence-based protocols in the management of post-operative cardiothoracic surgical patients.
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans and critical care interventions.
- Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives within the ICU setting.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current and valid California license as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA).
