Buyer - Summary
- Responsible for procuring raw materials, machined components, outside processing, and support services.
- Negotiates with manufacturers and service providers to secure optimal pricing and delivery schedules.
- Works closely with internal teams to ensure purchasing activities align with company objectives.
- Monitors supplier performance and drives continuous improvement in procurement processes.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Create and manage purchase orders (POs) for a range of materials and services.
- Initiate requests for quotes (RFQs) for all necessary commodities.
- Utilize judgment in procuring components and materials, considering inventory levels, price, delivery costs, and market conditions.
- Align deliveries to production schedules, minimizing inventory while supporting manufacturing and service needs.
- Assess financial and schedule risks, recommend volume purchases when appropriate.
- Review and adjust purchasing drivers such as lead time, safety stock, and lot size.
- Collaborate on the qualification and implementation of new suppliers and products.
- Negotiate cost reductions and ensure favorable purchasing terms using market data and technical insights.
- Analyze costs and create reports to support purchasing decisions.
- Monitor supplier performance, provide feedback, and facilitate corrective actions for quality or delivery issues.
- Maintain comprehensive procurement documentation and records.
- Perform additional tasks as directed to support purchasing objectives.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant field.
- Four to eight years of experience in procurement, supply chain management, or a similar discipline preferred.
- Strong command of the English language, both written and verbal.
- Ability to interpret safety rules, technical documents, and business regulations.
- Proficiency in mathematical concepts, including algebra, geometry, and data analysis.
- Demonstrated reasoning skills for problem-solving and data interpretation.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), ERP/inventory systems, typing, and 10-key skills.
- Experience with blueprint reading, purchasing strategies, and negotiation techniques.
- Familiarity with military standards and processing specifications is a plus.
