Business Development Director – Construction Summary
- Drive growth and sustainability for the organization by developing and executing comprehensive business development strategies within the commercial construction and higher education markets.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners to ensure alignment with organizational goals and client needs.
- Serve as a visible leader and representative for the organization at industry events and within professional associations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and nurture relationships with higher education institutions, identifying and pursuing opportunities for new project development.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Business Development to expand the organization’s project pipeline within the higher education sector.
- Enhance the company’s visibility and reputation by actively participating in conferences, events, and industry associations relevant to commercial construction and education.
- Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of construction requirements for higher education facilities, including capital planning, campus priorities, and funding methodologies.
- Conduct thorough evaluations of potential projects, weighing requirements, risks, and profit potential to inform decision-making.
- Monitor industry trends, funding landscapes, and potential partnership opportunities to maintain a forward-thinking approach.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support organizational objectives.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in business development and client relationship management within the construction market.
- Proven track record of representing organizations publicly, including delivering presentations and participating in industry events.
- Demonstrated success in securing construction projects and exceeding revenue targets.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the confidence to initiate and manage sales conversations and handle unique client requests.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and technical specifications.
- Experience collaborating with departments such as Marketing, Estimating, Pre-Construction, and Operations.
- Physical capability to travel locally and occasionally out of state, perform tasks requiring mobility and dexterity, and work in environments typical of construction sites.
- Visual acuity requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds as necessary.
- Ability to work in various positions, including but not limited to stooping, standing, bending, sitting, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods.
