Avionics Engineer SME - Summary
As an Avionics Engineer SME, you will be responsible for shaping the architecture and integration of advanced avionics systems, ensuring that all designs meet stringent certification and airworthiness standards. You will act as the authority on avionics interface and integration, lead compliance initiatives, and collaborate closely with government stakeholders and engineering teams. Duties & Responsibilities
- Define and validate avionics integration architectures, ensuring compliance with interface-control documents and messaging standards.
- Lead the creation and maintenance of flight-clearance packages and oversee the development of compliance artifacts to guarantee certification and airworthiness.
- Capture complex avionics models using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and manage configuration-control boards.
- Specify, validate, and troubleshoot wiring harnesses and other critical components during lab-to-flight integration phases.
- Draft flight-test cards, serve as the avionics lead during flight tests, and coordinate the resolution of anomalies and technical challenges.
- Mentor mid-level engineers, advise government leadership, and engage proactively with project stakeholders to ensure alignment and project success.

Qualifications & Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship and active TS/SCI security clearance are mandatory.
- Minimum of 20 years of avionics design and integration experience, specifically on military platforms.
- Expertise with MIL-STD-1553, ARINC-429/664, Ethernet (TSN/AFDX), VPX architectures, and advanced timing/synchronization protocols.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate Type-1 crypto, SATCOM/RF subsystems, and open mission systems effectively.
- High proficiency in avionics E-CAD and MBSE tools.
Ideal Candidate Snapshot
- Background in ABMS, CJADC2, or airborne C4ISR networking programs is highly valued.
- Deep understanding of compliance standards, EMI/EMC requirements, and regulatory processes.
- Certifications such as INCOSE CSEP/ESEP, DER, or completion of USAF Test Pilot School are advantageous.
- Experience with software-defined radios, content routing, SDN architectures, and Agile/SAFe frameworks.
