Associate Medical Director – Summary
The Associate Medical Director (MD/DO) oversees the daily clinical operations and strategic growth of multiple centers, ensuring the highest quality of care for a senior patient population with complex chronic conditions. This role combines hands-on clinical practice with people management, operational oversight, and the development of a positive, team-oriented culture. The Associate Medical Director will collaborate with the Regional President and other stakeholders to implement performance improvement initiatives, cultivate provider talent, and build strong external relationships with community partners, specialists, and payers.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Directly supervise, mentor, and performance manage Clinical Directors across assigned centers to ensure consistently high clinical standards and outcomes.
- Balance clinical duties as a primary care physician (PCP) with broader leadership responsibilities, allocating time based on market and organizational needs.
- Drive center-level physician culture aligned with organizational values, service standards, and operational excellence.
- Lead professional development for PCPs, NPs, and Medical Directors, including coaching, shadowing, and execution of leadership development plans.
- Facilitate recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing talent development in collaboration with Clinical Center of Excellence (COE) and Talent Acquisition teams.
- Monitor clinical operations, ensure compliance with performance metrics, and manage P&L objectives for assigned centers.
- Participate in the training of new practitioners and implement medical economics and financial performance strategies.
- Establish and maintain successful relationships with external partners, including payers, local hospitals, specialists, and community organizations.
- Support the market’s quality and performance improvement initiatives and oversee monthly and quarterly clinical metric analysis.
- Respond promptly to workplace concerns and support the creation of a positive, inclusive work environment.
- Provide clinical oversight for referrals, utilization authorizations, and cost reduction strategies within the market.
- Deliver direct patient care to a small panel of senior patients, ensuring outstanding service and health outcomes (approximately 20% of role).
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Regional President or as market needs evolve.

Qualifications & Requirements
- MD or DO degree in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatrics, or a closely related specialty.
- Current, active medical license in the state of employment.
- Minimum of 2 years clinical experience (3 years preferred), with previous leadership or Medical Director experience managing Medicare or Medicaid patient populations strongly preferred.
- Board eligibility is required; board certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatrics, or a related specialty is preferred.
- Proven record of clinical leadership, population health management, and chronic disease care management.
- Proficient in electronic medical record (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to travel locally, regionally, and nationally up to 30% of the time.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Demonstrated skills in talent development, conflict management, and relationship building.
