Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) – Medical ICU Summary
- Deliver advanced nursing care to critically ill adult patients in a high-acuity medical intensive care unit setting.
- Function as a pivotal part of an interdisciplinary team, supporting both training and veteran healthcare professionals in a learning-focused environment.
- Manage patients with complex medical, surgical, cardiac, transplant, and stroke diagnoses.
- Participate in a rotation-based schedule, including both day and night shifts as well as weekends, ensuring comprehensive patient coverage and team support.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive assessments, develop differential diagnoses, and formulate evidence-based treatment plans for critically ill patients.
- Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams in the management of medical ICU patients, including those with cardiac, transplant, and neurological conditions.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests and procedures relevant to patient care in the ICU setting.
- Initiate and manage advanced therapies, including pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, as indicated by patient condition and protocols.
- Provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and ongoing care needs.
- Document all patient care activities accurately and timely in the electronic medical record system, ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development activities within the facility.
- Support and mentor new graduate practitioners, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current licensure as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or equivalent, with certification from an accredited body.
- Graduation from an accredited nurse practitioner program with a focus on acute or critical care.
- Experience in a medical ICU or critical care setting is preferred; new graduates with strong clinical rotations in ICU may be considered.
- Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
