Our client, a prominent mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) general contractor, is seeking a highly skilled and strategic VP Estimating – MEP for a full-time role in San Diego, CA. This leadership position focuses on overseeing all aspects of estimating and sales within the MEP sector, ensuring comprehensive, competitive proposals and successful project acquisition. The VP Estimating – MEP is integral to pre-construction management, business development, and maintaining strong client relationships, while also collaborating closely with internal estimating and marketing teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain robust relationships with clients, general contractors, and key project stakeholders, representing the company’s expertise and commitment to quality in every interaction.
- Oversee and lead bid efforts as the primary bid captain, ensuring all proposal components are aligned and competitive, and that the scope of work is clearly defined and complete.
- Direct project oversight from initial concept through final completion, ensuring seamless execution and adherence to project goals and company standards.
- Collaborate closely with the estimating team to ensure accuracy and completeness in all bid submissions, leveraging your expertise in MEP systems and construction processes.
- Work with marketing professionals to assemble and deliver comprehensive proposal packages that effectively communicate company value, project approach, and capabilities to clients and stakeholders.
- Manage the receipt, review, and timely response to requests for proposals (RFPs), ensuring strategic positioning and thoroughness in every submission.
- Lead proposal and interview processes, crafting compelling presentations that align with client expectations and demonstrate the company’s strengths in the MEP sector.
- Identify potential risks in projects proactively and collaborate with internal teams to develop mitigation strategies, safeguarding project goals and client satisfaction.
- Oversee pre-construction management, ensuring a smooth and effective transition from bid phase to execution and project delivery.
- Uphold a high level of professionalism and integrity in all communications and relationships with employees, clients, and external partners, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of field experience or a degree in engineering, with a strong focus on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Proven communication skills, including the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly in both written and verbal formats.
- Demonstrated estimating experience with the ability to analyze and assess complete scopes of work in MEP projects.
- In-depth understanding of MEP systems and their critical role in the pre-construction and construction process.
- Strong computer proficiency, particularly with industry-specific estimation and project management software.
