VMware Systems Engineer Position Overview
IDR is seeking a VMware Systems Engineer for a full-time opportunity in Arlington, TX. As a VMware Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the organization's data center operations by focusing on virtualization infrastructure, system provisioning, installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance. This role is essential for ensuring the stability, security, and optimal performance of the virtual environment and related infrastructure components.
Responsibilities
- Provision, install, and configure virtual environments using VMware solutions, ensuring all systems are operating efficiently and securely.
- Administer and maintain VMware-based infrastructure, including vSphere/ESXi, vCenter Server, and vSAN, with a focus on lifecycle management, upgrades, and patches.
- Collaborate with a team of data center engineers to deliver reliable virtualization support and troubleshoot complex issues related to system performance and availability.
- Manage hardware and software resources across hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI), ensuring high availability and redundancy for mission-critical applications.
- Oversee network and storage administration, supporting both day-to-day operations and long-term infrastructure planning.
- Support isolated sites and air-gapped networks, including DMZ configuration and management, to enhance security and compliance across the enterprise IT environment.
- Document configuration changes, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistent and repeatable operations.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in VMware architecture, including the design, planning, configuration, administration, and lifecycle management of virtual environments.
- Proven expertise with VMware technologies such as vSphere/ESXi, vCenter Server, and vSAN.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience working within hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) deployments.
- Experience managing isolated sites and air-gapped networks, including DMZ configuration and secure network practices.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with VMware clusters and stretched clusters, including the management of highly available redundant clusters across multiple data centers.
- Familiarity with NAS storage technologies, such as Dell PowerScale.
- Experience working in environments utilizing Dell or other third-party hardware solutions.
- Relevant certifications or formal training in VMware or VXRail environments are considered a plus.
