Tool Maker Machinist Job Overview
We are looking for a skilled Tool Maker Machinist to join our team on a full-time basis. The Tool Maker Machinist is responsible for fabricating, modifying, and repairing tools, dies, and fixtures that are essential to the manufacturing process. This role requires proficiency in manual machining, a strong understanding of engineering drawings, and a high degree of precision and attention to detail. A background in metallurgy, manual machining, and tool making is essential, while experience with CNC machinery and CAD/CAM software is considered an advantage.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to accurately determine tool requirements and manufacturing processes.
- Operate and set up various manual machining equipment, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drills to fabricate, modify, and repair tools, dies, and fixtures.
- Perform precise measurements using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments to ensure tools and components meet exact specifications and quality standards.
- Apply conventional machining techniques such as turning, milling, drilling, and grinding for shaping and finishing workpieces to required tolerances.
- Collaborate closely with engineers and tool designers, providing valuable feedback and suggestions for design improvements and modifications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to tooling and fixtures to support smooth and efficient production operations.
- Maintain and repair existing tools, dies, and fixtures to maximize their longevity and ensure ongoing functionality within the production environment.
- Conduct routine maintenance on manual machines and related equipment to guarantee optimal working conditions and minimize downtime.
- Adhere strictly to established safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area at all times.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is required; technical certification or vocational training in machining or tool making is preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of metallurgy, various metal types, and basic welding practices.
- Significant experience as a Tool Maker or Machinist in a manufacturing or machining environment, demonstrating strong technical skills.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical diagrams.
- Extensive knowledge of manual machining techniques and the safe operation of related equipment.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and CNC machining processes is considered a plus.
- Strong command of using precision measuring instruments and applying them to maintain tight tolerances and high quality standards.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and produce results with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities to address technical and operational challenges.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work consistently.
- Effective organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
