Structural CAD Drafter Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Structural CAD Drafter to join our team full-time in San Diego, CA. As a Structural CAD Drafter, you will play a crucial role in supporting structural engineering projects by converting engineering concepts and designs into precise technical drawings and models. This position is ideal for candidates with experience in computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) software, who are committed to accuracy and collaboration in the structural drafting process.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed structural drawings and plans using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar CAD software under the supervision of structural engineers.
- Develop and draft construction documents including foundations, framing, floor plans, sections, and detailed component drawings.
- Revise and update structural drawings based on feedback, markups, and design changes provided by engineers and project managers.
- Assist in the creation and management of 3D models of structural systems for improved visualization and project coordination.
- Perform quality checks to ensure all drawings are accurate, comply with company standards, and adhere to applicable building codes.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, architects, and fellow drafters to ensure multidisciplinary project coordination.
- Maintain organized documentation and version control of all project drawings throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or technical diploma in drafting, design technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in structural drafting, preferably within an architectural or engineering firm.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit; experience with BIM workflows is advantageous.
- Familiarity with a variety of structural systems, including steel, concrete, wood, and masonry.
- Ability to accurately interpret structural and architectural drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, precise work.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience with additional tools such as Bluebeam, Navisworks, or other project coordination software is a plus.
- Knowledge of local building codes and construction standards relevant to San Diego, CA, is beneficial.
- Exposure to a range of project types, including commercial, healthcare, residential, or institutional sectors, is preferred.
