Network Engineer Job Description
IDR is seeking a skilled and motivated Network Engineer to join a top healthcare organization in Rochester, MN on a full-time contract basis. This opportunity is ideal for professionals with a strong background in networking, cybersecurity, and enterprise infrastructure who are eager to contribute within a collaborative, mission-driven environment. The position offers a hybrid work model, with remote flexibility available after an initial onsite period. The contract duration is six months, with the potential for extension based on project needs and performance.
Responsibilities
- Design, operate, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure, covering core disciplines such as routing, switching, and wireless networks.
- Support and manage advanced network security tools, including technologies like Network Access Control (NAC), Cisco TrustSec, Identity Services Engine (ISE), VPNs, DNS security, and secure web services, ensuring the security and reliability of organizational data and communications.
- Provide expert-level troubleshooting assistance and contribute to security incident response activities in collaboration with cross-functional teams such as the Help Desk, IT Operations Center (ITOC), and Security Operations Center (SOC).
- Utilize and maintain software-defined networking (SDN) technologies, including Secure Access Service Edge (SASE), firewalls, WAN/LAN optimization, and cloud networking tools, to support modern, scalable, and secure enterprise networks.
- Leverage automation and scripting tools such as Splunk for monitoring, Ansible for configuration management, and languages like Python and .Net to drive network efficiency and process improvements.
- Participate in or lead project-based initiatives and network upgrades, utilizing both Agile and Waterfall methodologies to deliver results on time and within scope.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in enterprise networking, including routing, switching, wireless, and network security best practices.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco TrustSec, ISE, VPN solutions, and secure DNS or web service tools.
- Familiarity with SDN solutions, cloud networking, and hybrid network environments within large organizational settings.
- Proficient in scripting languages and automation tools such as Python, Ansible, .Net, and Splunk for network monitoring and management.
- Understanding of Agile and Waterfall project methodologies, with the ability to work effectively in dynamic team environments.
- Strong troubleshooting abilities, effective communication skills, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Cisco certifications such as CCNA are preferred.
- Experience working within large-scale healthcare or enterprise IT environments is highly desirable.
Employment Type
This is a full-time contract role. The Network Engineer will be provided with all necessary equipment and will be eligible for remote work after an initial onsite period. The six-month contract has the potential to be extended based on organizational requirements.
