Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) - Summary
- Provide comprehensive speech-language pathology services to in-patient and out-patient populations at a premier military medical facility.
- Deliver expert assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for a full spectrum of speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders.
- Engage in a collaborative healthcare environment, working closely with other clinicians and healthcare professionals.
- Utilize advanced clinical instrumentation and evidence-based practices to support optimal patient outcomes.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized treatment strategies for patients with communication and swallowing disorders.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and provide detailed consultations to other healthcare professionals.
- Utilize specialized instrumentation such as videofluoroscopy, nasendoscopy, stroboscopy, and computer-based tools for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
- Deliver a full range of services, including prevention, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnostic, treatment, management, counseling, and follow-up for disorders of speech and language in various modalities.
- Select and administer appropriate assessment instruments for speech, language, cognitive function, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders.
- Interpret assessment data, design evidence-based treatment plans, and make recommendations for additional interventions or referrals as needed.
- Manage complex cases involving sensory, motor, physical, or cognitive impairments, including patients with tracheostomies and those requiring specialized voice prostheses.
- Collaborate with physicians on specialized procedures such as flexible and rigid endoscopy, stroboscopy, nasopharyngoscopy, fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing, and videofluoroscopic swallow studies.
- Conduct acoustic and perceptual speech and voice evaluations independently.
- Educate and counsel patients and families about communication, swallowing disorders, treatment plans, prognosis, and available community resources.
- Prepare documentation for physician review and for submission to regulatory entities, including disability claims and VA or DMV documentation.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Master's degree in Speech Pathology or Communication Disorders from an accredited institution.
- Completion of at least 18 semester hours in the field of speech pathology from a regionally accredited college or university and a program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
- Current Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from ASHA.
- Unrestricted, active, and full license to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP).
- Meet all clinical competency requirements as specified in the service-specific credentialing instructions.
- U.S. Citizenship and active NACI clearance required for consideration.
- Minimum of 2 years of acute and/or rehabilitation hospital-based experience within the past 4 years, including experience with traumatic brain injury and neurological disorders, bedside swallowing assessments, Modified Barium Swallow Studies, and evidence-based interventions for cognitive-communication disorders.
