As a Shipping Clerk, you will be responsible for handling a variety of shipping and receiving tasks, including packaging finished printed materials, verifying the completeness of shipments against shipping pick tickets, affixing shipping labels, selecting shipment methods, weighing items to determine shipping charges, and preparing bills of lading. This Shipping Clerk position also involves the operation of warehouse machinery and the maintenance of strict quality control standards for all outbound shipments, making it a crucial role in maintaining the efficiency and accuracy of the supply chain process in a dynamic warehouse environment.

In this Shipping Clerk role, you will operate a range of warehouse machinery such as pallet jacks, forklifts, weight scales, corner shear machines, and paper packing fabricators to efficiently move and prepare goods for shipment. You will be responsible for unloading trucks, receiving and inspecting incoming goods, identifying materials by product type, count, measurement, and label, and ensuring all shipments are prepared according to company standards. The Shipping Clerk is expected to obtain, sort, prepare, assemble, and pack printed products and materials for shipment, maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail throughout the process.

Additionally, the Shipping Clerk will apply quality control standards to all procedures and pack-outs, ensuring that every shipment meets the company’s expectations for quality and completeness. You will also assist in the routine maintenance of warehouse equipment, ensuring that all machinery is kept in good working order. As part of the shipping process, you will weigh cartons and skids, stamp or glue identifying information and shipping instructions onto packages, crates, or containers, and affix the required postage. Detailed shipment information, including weight, shipping charges, time, date packaged, and carrier, must be accurately recorded for each shipment leaving the facility.

To be successful as a Shipping Clerk, candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent experience and training, along with at least one year of experience in receiving and warehouse operations within a production-manufacturing environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required to manage shipping documentation and records. The ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos is also essential. In addition, candidates must be able to obtain and maintain forklift certification, which is crucial for safely operating warehouse equipment on a daily basis.

The Shipping Clerk role requires regular communication, frequent use of hands or fingers to handle or reach with hands and arms, and the ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods. Physical requirements also include occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 60 pounds and pushing or pulling up to 150 pounds.
