Senior FHIR Integration Developer Job Overview
ARC Group is seeking an experienced Senior FHIR Integration Developer for a full-time, remote contract position. As a Senior FHIR Integration Developer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and implementing complex data integrations using the latest FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) standards. This position requires a deep understanding of healthcare interoperability, FHIR APIs, and related technologies. The role offers the opportunity to work remotely on Eastern Time Zone business hours, contributing to impactful projects that enhance healthcare data exchange and workflow optimization.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with clients and stakeholders to gather business requirements and translate them into technical solutions using FHIR standards.
- Lead the analysis, design, development, and implementation of Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) applications for internal and external healthcare clients.
- Advise on architectural strategies and best practices for healthcare data integration and interoperability.
- Contribute to the planning and design of integration projects, collaborating with external partners, IT teams, and business users.
- Support team development and foster collaboration with remote team members to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Design and implement data integration workflows, RESTful FHIR APIs, and custom software components.
- Provide ongoing technical support during and after project implementation to ensure seamless integration and system stability.
- Document technical specifications, compliance requirements, and integration details thoroughly and clearly.
- Address complex integration challenges and continuously optimize healthcare workflows, especially related to prior authorization processes.
- Deliver regular updates on project progress and outstanding issues to stakeholders and team members.
Qualifications
- In-depth understanding of FHIR R4 and upcoming R5 standards, with a focus on RESTful API development and integration.
- Expertise in FHIR resources such as Coverage, Claim, ClaimResponse, PriorAuthorization, Patient, Encounter, Practitioner, Organization, Bundle, and Document Reference, including profile creation using Structure Definition.
- Strong knowledge of CMS Prior Authorization API Implementation Guides, including Da Vinci Prior Authorization Support (PAS), Coverage Requirements Discovery (CRD), Documentation Templates and Rules (DTR), and Payer Data Exchange (PDex).
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java for building and customizing FHIR-based solutions.
- Skills in using FHIR Path and search parameters for data querying, manipulation, and validation.
- Experience designing and deploying FHIR servers and RESTful APIs, including endpoint management, versioning, and throttling.
- Familiarity with integrating FHIR APIs with payer systems and EMR platforms such as Epic and Cerner.
- Expertise in SMART on FHIR and OAuth 2.0 protocols for secure data access and interoperability.
- Ability to map clinical data to FHIR resources and align with US Core profiles for regulatory compliance.
- Experience with healthcare terminologies such as SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-10, and CPT for accurate data representation.
- Strong understanding of X12/EDI 278 standards for compatibility with payer systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare workflows, especially prior authorization, payer-provider interactions, and regulatory requirements (CMS-0057-F, HIPAA).
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and vendors.
- Ability to clearly document technical and compliance details.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in technical design and coding within the IT industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent relevant work experience.
