Senior Construction Estimator (Commercial Construction Estimator) Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Construction Estimator to join our team as a full-time professional in San Diego, CA. As a Senior Construction Estimator, you will be responsible for delivering accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for commercial construction projects. You will collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure the successful planning and execution of construction projects. This role is essential in supporting project goals and upholding our commitment to quality, safety, and integrity within the commercial construction industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and relevant documentation to prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for both conceptual and final project phases.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders, including project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors, to gather information and ensure comprehensive cost development.
- Prepare and present estimates covering labor, materials, equipment, and associated costs in a clear and organized manner.
- Review and assess bids from subcontractors and material suppliers, ensuring competitiveness and compliance with project requirements.
- Conduct thorough risk analysis, identifying potential project challenges and developing contingency strategies to mitigate risks.
- Maintain and update cost databases, historical records, and reference materials to support ongoing and future estimating needs.
- Identify and recommend value engineering and cost-saving opportunities to optimize project budgets without compromising quality.
- Assist in the development and management of project budgets and schedules, ensuring alignment with client and organizational objectives.
- Monitor ongoing project costs during construction to verify adherence to the established budget and recommend corrective measures when necessary.
- Remain current with industry trends, new materials, and advancements in construction methods to enhance estimating accuracy and efficiency.
- Mentor and provide training to junior estimators, fostering professional development and sharing best practices within the team.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 7-10 years of experience in construction estimating, ideally focused on commercial construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction processes, materials, and key cost factors influencing project budgets.
- Proficiency with leading estimating software, such as Bluebeam, ProEst, or Sage Estimating, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Exceptional analytical and mathematical abilities, ensuring accuracy in all estimates and calculations.
- Keen attention to detail and a commitment to delivering precise and reliable estimates.
- Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and detailed specifications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, supporting effective teamwork and client engagement.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Professional certification, such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or AACE Certification, is considered an asset.
