JOB DESCRIPTION
This position leads compensation projects, designs and implements company-wide compensation programs and provides vision and direction to Compensation team members assigned to work on a program or project. This position supports assigned client groups by consulting with leaders regarding compensation policies and programs and their application.
Compensation Projects/Workgroups (50%)
- Leads the annual compensation program development project. Develops project plan; assigns associated analyses and other tasks to compensation staff. Participates in meetings to reviews data and recommendations with Manager Compensation, Vice President, Human Resources, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer. Works directly with the Finance Department in developing cost projections for existing and proposed programs. Works with Manager Compensation to develop timelines for implementation of approved recommendations in the HRIS system and with the Director Benefits and Communications for producing all related management and employee communications.
- Leads the evaluation of compensation-related systems. May perform one or more of the following tasks and/or delegates tasks to identify requirements, configure, test, prepare training materials or job aides for department and end users, audit data feeds from HR system to compensation systems to ensure data accuracy, and collaborate with HR department(s) and vendor to resolve issues.
- Participates on internal and external work groups: Represents the compensation department on internal and external work groups and provides compensation data, analyses and recommendations as required.
- Stays abreast of compensation market research, summarizing the trends to share with the department for continued learning, to share with company leadership as the Compensation Subject Matter Expert and for use in compensation-related projects and programs.
Compensation Consulting and Programs' Administration (40%)
- Job Offers: Develops compensation recommendations for job offers for assigned client groups by analyzing internal equity and collaborating with management for final offer amount and approval. Provides guidance to management and employees in the administration and interpretation of HR policies related to salary administration and compensation programs. Reviews job offers involving equity reviews prepared by Compensation Program Administrator and Compensation Analyst.
- Contingent Resource Bill Rates: Ensures rates are based on most current year market matches used to develop corresponding salary ranges. Reviews requests for rate increases with requesting management and Compensation leaders.
- Client Consultation: Partners with assigned client groups on new job descriptions ensuring they meet the federal and state laws and regulations related to the Fair Labor Standards Act, Service Contract Labor Standards Act (SCLS and other compensation-related laws, regulations and practices.
- Job Evaluations, Market Pricing and Analyses: Accountable for non-exempt and exempt job evaluation, market pricing and associated analyses. Works with requesting managers to evaluate submitted positions. Research market matches in market pricing system and makes recommendations for salary plan and salary range assignment. Presents data and recommendations to job evaluation team. Assists requesting managers in administrative actions required to finalize evaluation results and resulting employee changes.
Compensation Audits & Compliance (10%)
- Supports audits performed by other compensation team members to identify impacts, if any, and recommend resolution. Reviews active job codes for possible inactivation, confirms inactivation recommendation with appropriate leaders and inactivates approved job codes.
- Supports job description audits by consulting with management on revisions and ensuring the marketing pricing and/or SCLS category is appropriate.
- Responsible for assigned annual review process of HR policies, procedures and supporting forms to ensure compliance with company policy.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in related field and/or 5 years' related work experience, to include at least 3 years' compensation experience and experience performing data analysis.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to the Fair Labor Standards Act and other compensation-related laws, regulations and practices.
- Strong project management skills at the organizational level
- Intermediate skills in MS Word (document merge), Outlook, Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, IF-THEN formulas) and PowerPoint.
- Experience using human resources information systems (i.e., ADP, PeopleSoft, Taleo, Success Factors, etc.)
- Experience with commercial market pricing databases such as PayScale/Market Pay.
- Self-starter who can multi-task and achieve performance goals in a dynamic, changing environment.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Ability to research, analyze and interpret federal and state laws
- Strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Ability to manage sensitive information in a confidential manner
- Ability to analyze and interpret policy and procedural questions, draw conclusions, and make effective recommendations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced Excel (macros, advanced formulas, advanced charting) skills
- Work experience in healthcare or government contracting organization
- Work experience in benefits, and/or human resources systems
- Experience providing training and/or guidance on how a system or process works
- PHR or SPHR
- CCP (Certified Compensation Professional)
