Senior Accountant - Summary
- Full-time contract opportunity focused on supporting a fuels distribution business through a major system transition (Ascend to Vertrax integrated with Oracle).
- Responsible for month-end close, inventory management, accruals, intercompany reconciliations, and compliance reporting.
- Key partner to operations and IT teams, ensuring accurate data mapping and process documentation during the transition.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and execute monthly financial close in accordance with business calendar and established processes.
- Prepare and post recurring and ad hoc journal entries, including inventory accruals, intercompany transactions, deferred drydock costs, leases, and prepaid amortizations.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts for inventory, clearing, accruals, prepaids, and bank accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Validate data feeds from Ascend and Vertrax into Oracle, maintaining mapping integrity and resolving any suspense postings or discrepancies.
- Collaborate with operations and IT teams to support the transition from Ascend to Vertrax, including user acceptance testing, reconciliation, and thorough process documentation.
- Verify fuel inventory quantities, valuations, and cost allocations for both terminals and vessels.
- Manage purchase order accruals and reversals, ensuring proper cut-off and accurate cost recognition.
- Prepare and review intercompany transactions, ensuring balances and accuracy across multiple entities.
- Support the preparation and filing of Form 730 fuel tax reports, ensuring compliant and accurate data aggregation.
- Produce monthly terminal and cost center reports for distribution to finance and operational leadership.
- Identify, recommend, and help implement process improvements in closing procedures, data mapping, and reporting workflows.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within fuel distribution, logistics, or marine operations.
- Demonstrated experience with ERP integrations, with Ascend to Vertrax and Oracle experience considered a strong asset.
- Comprehensive understanding of U.S. GAAP and fuel excise tax regulations, including experience with Form 730.
- Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to reconcile complex data and resolve mapping issues between systems.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Effective communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams.
