School Psychologist Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable School Psychologist for a full-time opportunity in Kankakee, IL for the 2025-26 academic year. Key Responsibilities
- Administer and coordinate psychological test batteries for students referred to special education, ensuring all documentation, due process, and timely, accurate reporting are maintained in compliance with educational regulations.
- Assist parents and teachers in interpreting assessment results, translating findings into actionable strategies to address learning and behavioral challenges.
- Provide professional development to staff related to assessment practices, child development, behavioral management, confidentiality, and due process in the context of special education.
- Collaborate with staff and parents to review and appropriately apply assessment reports from external systems or agencies, ensuring consistency and accuracy in educational planning.
- Actively participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) team meetings, contributing professional expertise to support the development of effective educational plans.
- Serve as a liaison between the school system and external social service, advocacy, or private agencies as assigned, ensuring coordinated support for students.
- Advise staff regarding psychological and mental health issues, promoting understanding and appropriate interventions within the school community.
- Support positive staff morale and contribute to the achievement of school system goals by fostering collaboration and communication.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in School Psychology from an accredited institution.
- Valid School Psychologist Certificate or eligibility for an Illinois ISBE state/educator's license.
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in administering a range of psychological and educational assessment instruments.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain positive, effective relationships with students, parents, teachers, principals, and other professionals in an educational setting.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex information to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to manage time efficiently, ensuring timely completion of all assigned responsibilities.
