The Reliability Engineer plays a pivotal role within the maintenance and engineering teams by ensuring the ongoing operational integrity and compliance of all manufacturing equipment. This position is essential for organizations focused on continuous improvement, equipment reliability, and compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). The Reliability Engineer is responsible for implementing and managing reliability engineering programs, predictive maintenance strategies, and asset management processes that maximize equipment uptime and ensure regulatory standards are met.
In this full-time role, the Reliability Engineer collaborates closely with project engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to guide the reliability and maintainability of both new and existing installations. The professional in this position will systematically define, design, develop, monitor, and refine asset maintenance plans, utilizing the latest techniques in preventive and predictive maintenance. Their expertise ensures that equipment remains in optimal operating condition, minimizing downtime and safeguarding product quality and safety.
Key to this role is the ability to apply advanced engineering theories, practices, and principles to determine the root causes of equipment failures. The Reliability Engineer will perform comprehensive equipment performance evaluations and implement engineering solutions to recurring issues that negatively impact plant operations, whether related to capacity, quality, cost, or compliance.
The Reliability Engineer actively participates in the entire Life Cycle Asset Management (LCAM) process, from design and installation specifications to commissioning and acceptance testing. This includes developing and applying acceptance and inspection criteria, and ensuring all assets meet functional and regulatory requirements throughout their operational life.
Collaboration is central to this role, as the Reliability Engineer works alongside production teams to analyze asset utilization, overall equipment effectiveness, remaining useful life, and related performance parameters. Through this analysis, the Reliability Engineer identifies opportunities to enhance reliability, reduce costs, and extend the useful life of critical equipment. The position also provides ongoing technical support to production, maintenance management, and technical personnel.
The Reliability Engineer will utilize a range of advanced analytical tools and methodologies, such as Statistical Process Control, Reliability Modeling and Prediction, Fault Tree Analysis, Six Sigma (6σ), Root Cause Analysis, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Failure Reporting Analysis and Corrective Action Systems (FRACAS). These methods are vital for identifying reliability issues, evaluating risks, and developing effective corrective actions that adhere to company quality systems and regulatory requirements.
This role also includes the responsibility for supporting and sometimes leading capital projects, change control activities, and deviation investigations related to facilities and maintenance. The Reliability Engineer will prepare annual evaluation and operational assessment reports, manage budgets, create purchase requisitions, and train subject matter experts (SMEs) in effective problem-solving techniques.
