The Quality Engineer (QE) plays a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing product and service quality within the organization. This full-time position is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring quality measures that align with both internal company standards and customer requirements. The Quality Engineer (QE) utilizes advanced methodologies, such as Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma, to drive continuous improvement across production processes and to reduce costs while ensuring that products meet stringent specifications.
Key responsibilities of the Quality Engineer (QE) include oversight of the Material Review Board (MRB), managing non-conformance issues, and participating in initiatives that focus on process improvements and risk reduction. The Quality Engineer (QE) collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, including production, engineering, and quality assurance, to resolve technical challenges and support the professional development of team members through inspection training and process instruction.
- Plan and implement robust quality measures in alignment with company and customer requirements, ensuring ongoing compliance and quality assurance.
- Apply contemporary quality principles, such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and process variation management, to continuously develop and improve internal processes.
- Oversee the Material Review Board (MRB) to confirm that all products meet the necessary specifications and performance standards.
- Manage the non-conformance process, escalate issues when appropriate, and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented corrective actions.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), to systematically quantify and mitigate risk.
- Partner with production teams, including machine shop and final assembly/test, to address technical issues and deliver targeted inspection training.
- Review Engineering Change Requests/Orders and new product drawings to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Administer calibration requirements and manage gage control to support precision and accuracy in all quality inspections.
- Prepare First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) as needed to document and validate product conformity.
- Deliver comprehensive training on processes and work instructions to inspection personnel.
- Generate required documentation, such as 8130-3 tags, to ensure regulatory compliance and traceability.
- Coordinate customer source inspections and serve as the Designated Source Quality Representative when required.
- Analyze returned products, such as switches, to determine root cause and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Work directly with customers to resolve product quality issues, manage escape situations, and develop effective corrective action plans.
- Conduct regular quality process audits, including planning, execution, reporting, and follow-up activities to ensure sustained compliance and improvement.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the quality assurance and continuous improvement goals of the organization.
