Psychiatrist Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Psychiatrist to join our community health program team. This Psychiatrist position is a hybrid/remote, part-time role and will play a pivotal part in supporting primary care providers (PCPs) by offering expert psychiatric consultation and collaborating on patient care plans. The Psychiatrist will conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, develop individualized treatment strategies, prescribe medications, and monitor patient outcomes in accordance with established protocols and regulatory standards.
As a Psychiatrist within our community health setting, you will be responsible for conducting new patient assessments and follow-up visits, ensuring all interactions meet productivity expectations as defined by the organization. This role supports the mission, vision, and values of our community health program, and requires strict adherence to organizational compliance protocols, policies, and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Consult with primary care providers to offer psychiatric opinions and brief consultations, facilitating the return of patients to primary care management when appropriate.
- Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations using a biopsychosocial model, including interviews with patients, family members, and other relevant individuals.
- Make evidence-based recommendations for ongoing psychosocial and medical treatment plans, and monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of these interventions.
- Order and interpret laboratory tests as needed, collaborating with PCPs to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Discuss treatment goals and progress with both PCPs and patients to ensure coordinated care and goal alignment.
- Maintain an interdisciplinary approach by consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality, integrated patient care.
- Ensure the provision of quality and safe services for patients and staff by adhering to established policies, procedures, standards, and legal regulations.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records by thoroughly documenting symptoms, medications, treatment events, and ensuring completion of visit notes and billing on the same day as the patient encounter.
- Stay current with advances in psychiatric care by participating in ongoing medical education, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks, and engaging with relevant professional organizations.
- Enhance departmental and organizational reputation by embracing new responsibilities and seeking opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Qualifications
- Completion of a psychiatric residency or a combined family medicine/psychiatry residency accredited by the ACGME.
- Board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
- Valid state medical license as an MD or DO, along with valid DEA and MCSR certification.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in psychiatric practice, demonstrating clinical competence and expertise.
- Experience in consultation-liaison psychiatry is preferred.
