Project Engineer Job Overview
The Project Engineer position is a key role within the construction management team, responsible for supporting successful project delivery by managing various technical and administrative tasks throughout the project lifecycle. This full-time position is based in Denver, CO, and offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects, including multi-family residential developments, mountain resort facilities, hospitality venues, and commercial spaces.
As a Project Engineer, you will work closely with project managers, superintendents, architects, consultants, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure projects meet specified timeframes, budgets, and quality standards. This role is ideal for professionals with a background in construction management or engineering who are passionate about contributing to a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist project managers in all phases of the construction management process, including procurement, planning, operations, and project closeout.
- Support project procurement by conducting quantity surveys, aiding in pricing alternates, and preparing scopes of work, bid packages, and comparison sheets for subcontractors.
- Contribute to contract administration by assisting in the preparation, negotiation, and management of contracts and related documentation.
- Help develop project budgets and schedules, and negotiate subcontract and material purchases as needed.
- Participate in project planning by assisting with the preparation and maintenance of project schedules, cost tracking systems, and job logistics.
- Coordinate material handling, storage, and the mobilization of resources such as trailers and utilities, as well as obtaining necessary building permits and licenses.
- Engage in project operations by reviewing plans and specifications, managing shop drawings and submittals, and maintaining logs for subcontractors and suppliers.
- Ensure compliance with quality control plans, participate in project coordination meetings, and prepare meeting minutes to track project progress.
- Oversee change management processes, including documentation, pricing, and administration of changes.
- Administer subcontracts by defining scopes of work, answering inquiries, monitoring progress, and processing back charges related to temporary facilities and inspections.
- Procure and expedite materials and equipment deliveries, and monitor inventory control for project equipment and resources.
- Coordinate subcontractors and facilitate document control by managing drawings, submissions, and specifications.
- Work collaboratively with designers and consultants to resolve field questions and support field operations as required by the project manager and superintendent.
- Assist the superintendent in maintaining safety and quality control on the project site.
- Participate in project closeout activities, such as completing punch lists, removing temporary facilities, securing occupancy permits, submitting guarantees and warranties, and finalizing subcontracts.
- Maintain strong professional relationships with project stakeholders, including owners, architects, consultants, subcontractors, and public agencies.
- Serve as a liaison with building authorities and regulatory agencies to ensure full compliance with all local, state, and federal requirements.
- Support the management and coordination of technical and administrative project requirements to safely achieve time, cost, and quality goals.
Qualifications
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Proven problem-solving abilities, including presenting issues with optimal solutions and driving timely resolutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of construction-related experience in a similar capacity.
