Project Engineer Position Overview
The Project Engineer plays a pivotal role in supporting commercial construction projects from inception through completion. This full-time position is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating all technical aspects of construction projects to ensure successful and timely delivery. The Project Engineer works closely with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and design professionals, contributing valuable expertise and ensuring all elements of the project meet rigorous standards of quality, safety, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct, coordinate, and exercise functional authority for planning, organization, integration, and completion of engineering projects within assigned responsibilities.
- Plan and formulate project engineering programs, organizing project staff according to project requirements.
- Assign personnel to specific project phases, including technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications, and technical plans, ensuring efficient project execution.
- Review product designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
- Coordinate activities related to technical developments, scheduling, and resolve engineering design and test problems as they arise.
- Direct the integration of technical activities and products to align with project goals.
- Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases for accuracy and compliance.
- Monitor project expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets and financial controls.
- Prepare interim and project completion reports, providing concise updates to project stakeholders.
- Assist superintendents in analyzing and resolving field construction issues, supporting smooth workflow on-site.
- Solicit and qualify subcontractor proposals, ensuring compliance with contract documentation and standards.
- Prepare, review, and distribute Requests for Information (RFIs), maintaining accurate logs and records.
- Evaluate submittals and shop drawings to confirm compliance with contract documents and specifications.
- Collaborate with superintendents and project managers to develop and maintain detailed project schedules.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of contract documents and specifications, serving as a subject matter expert.
- Assist project managers with budgeting, change orders, and overall financial management of projects.
- Manage project closeout procedures, including obtaining warranties required for final acceptance by clients.
- Foster and maintain effective, professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers, and contractors.
- Develop project objectives by reviewing proposals and plans, conferring with management to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
- Determine project responsibilities by identifying phases, assigning personnel, and reviewing contractor bids.
- Study product design and customer requirements to develop project specifications and prepare cost estimates.
- Design and conduct tests to confirm product performance and compliance.
- Calculate time requirements and sequence project elements by studying project plans and specifications.
- Monitor project progress, coordinate activities, and resolve issues to maintain project schedules.
- Review and control project plans, specifications, and schedule changes, recommending corrective actions as necessary.
- Approve expenditures and administer contractor contracts to control project costs.
- Prepare comprehensive project status reports, analyzing information and trends, and recommending actions.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Manage project databases, including writing computer programs and backing up data as required.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations to maintain the reputation of the product and company.
- Support the broader project team by accomplishing related results as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or a related field is required.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project.
- Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Revit and LEED accreditation is considered a plus.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a collaborative, positive attitude.
- 1-4 years of experience in construction or a related field.
