The Production Supervisor plays a critical leadership role on the manufacturing floor by guiding, mentoring, and supporting production team members, particularly during the second shift. As a key influencer within the production environment, the Production Supervisor ensures that daily operations run efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all relevant Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) as well as Quality Management System (QMS) standards. This vital position requires overseeing hands-on production activities, coordinating workflow, and upholding the highest standards of workplace safety and product quality. Working as a Production Supervisor on the second shift means taking ownership of production processes during critical operational hours, supporting both frontline employees and leadership to achieve production targets while maintaining a safe and organized work environment. Those hired into this position will initially receive training on the day shift before transitioning to their regular second shift schedule, ensuring they are fully prepared to excel in their supervisory responsibilities.
Production Supervisor - Summary
The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of operators and technicians on the production floor, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, and daily production goals. This role is pivotal in maintaining workflow continuity, resolving production issues, and fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement. The Production Supervisor will collaborate closely with senior supervisors, schedulers, and maintenance personnel to ensure operational excellence during the second shift.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Model, enforce, and promote safe work practices in line with ESH policies.
- Ensure all production activities comply with QMS standards and company procedures.
- Perform daily equipment inspections, including forklifts and cranes, submitting all documentation as required.
- Conduct and verify routine respirator inspections and ensure proper usage among team members.
- Maintain accurate and timely completion of safety logs (e.g., shower logs, inspections) and submit as required.
- Report safety concerns, incidents, or hazards immediately to senior supervisory staff.
- Provide hands-on support and fill-in coverage for key production roles, including Mill Operator, Decoil & Roll-Up Operator, Saw Operator, Packaging Lead, Packaging Operator, and Scrap Operator as needed.
- Assist with prioritizing and sequencing daily production tasks under the direction of senior supervisors or schedulers.
- Verify that all work is completed according to job travelers, schedules, and detailed work instructions.
- Measure and verify key product attributes, including material thickness, width, length, squareness, and finished product weights, using appropriate tools.
- Accurately complete and submit daily production and inspection reports.
- Identify, document, and report material shortages or production issues, including descriptions, suspected causes, and corrective actions.
- Assist in weekly inventory counts and shop supply requests as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and support daily housekeeping standards.
- Assist with end-of-shift clean-up activities and properly secure all equipment.
- Support correct scrap handling, segregation, and color-coding according to company protocols.
- Help load trucks and verify load accuracy when required.

Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of three to five years of hands-on manufacturing or production experience
- Proficiency in operating sit-down propane forklifts (required)
- Experience with overhead cranes (highly preferred)
- Ability to wear and use a respirator as needed
- Strong math and measurement abilities (e.g., using tape measures, micrometers)
- Proficient in reading and writing in English
- Solid understanding of shop safety practices and OSHA basics
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Dependable, team-oriented, and safety-focused attitude
