Production Manager Job Overview
The Production Manager plays a critical role in overseeing and managing all aspects of the production process to ensure the company meets customer requirements and maintains high standards of safety, quality, and productivity. Reporting to senior leadership, the Production Manager is responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives, enforcing company policies, and supporting team development within a dynamic manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor team Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to safety, quality, and productivity, ensuring that goals are met or exceeded.
- Identify and implement corrective actions for issues impacting quality, performance, safety, or productivity.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts, including the implementation of kaizen initiatives and development of innovative practices within assigned production areas.
- Enforce all company policies, procedures, and safety protocols to maintain compliance and a safe workplace environment.
- Supervise and assess the performance of Section Team Leaders (STL) and Team Leaders (TL), including their efforts to train team members effectively.
- Oversee training schedules and proficiency charts to ensure that daily processes and unusual conditions are managed with appropriate skill levels and on-time completion.
- Monitor and direct Total Productive Maintenance/Preventive Maintenance (TPM/PM) activities, ensuring that equipment is properly maintained through daily checks.
- Approve timekeeping records and manage requests for time off or paid time off (PTO), following defined company processes.
- Administer corrective actions and provide coaching to team members to support professional development and address performance issues.
- Serve as a liaison between the company and department group leaders at client facilities, fostering effective communication and problem resolution.
- Report supplier part issues to the Quality department and review defects at customer sites as necessary.
- Maintain and oversee 5S organizational standards within assigned areas to promote workplace efficiency and safety.
- Respond to team member concerns and participate in investigations as needed to maintain a positive and compliant work environment.
- Evaluate production processes regularly to identify opportunities for improvement and to ensure that company and customer expectations are met or exceeded.
- Perform additional duties as required to support the overall success of the production department and company objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent work experience required.
- At least four years of experience in production supervision and control, preferably in an automotive manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to motivate teams and ensure effective communication across all levels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proven ability to achieve operational results efficiently and effectively while enforcing company policies and procedures.
- High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of environmental management standards such as ISO14001 is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedural manuals.
- Mathematical proficiency, including the ability to compute rate, ratio, and interpret bar graphs.
- Strong reasoning skills and the ability to troubleshoot and recommend process improvements.
Working Conditions
- Physical requirements include frequent walking, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Regularly required to lift or move up to 10 lbs, and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
- Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Work environment involves exposure to moving mechanical parts, occasional exposure to heights, fumes, outside weather, wet or humid conditions, and risk of electrical shock.
