Principal Electrical Engineer

The Principal Electrical Engineer will provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise in electrical engineering, particularly in cable and harness design, while supporting cross-disciplinary teams and serving as a technical bridge between engineering, manufacturing, and customer-facing personnel.
As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability and integrity of electrical systems in demanding environments. This position requires deep experience in electrical design, with a focus on developing, documenting, and testing complex cable and wire harness solutions. You will collaborate with teams across multiple engineering disciplines and directly support hardware and system integration and verification testing. Principal Electrical Engineer - Summary- Lead technical design, development, and testing of cable and wire harness assemblies for military and ruggedized electrical systems.
- Serve as a technical authority and mentor within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
- Apply advanced knowledge of industry standards and best practices in electrical engineering.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and documentation.
- Design, develop, document, and test complex cable and wire harness assemblies for high-reliability environments.
- Review and specify components, including wire selection, connectors, shielding, grounding, and routing.
- Develop and support cable test equipment, verification methods, and assembly/test procedures.
- Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, cable layouts, BOMs, and assembly instructions using CAD tools.
- Perform hands-on electrical testing, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis of cable assemblies and integrated systems.
- Support subsystem and system-level integration and verification testing, including for three-phase and PLC cable assemblies.
- Apply EMI/EMC, RF, and grounding principles to cable and harness designs.
- Lead technical design reviews, risk assessments, and engineering evaluations.
- Establish and enhance engineering processes, testing protocols, and documentation standards.
- Mentor and provide technical direction to less-experienced engineers and designers.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, test, and configuration-management teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 25 years of progressive, hands-on electrical engineering experience, preferably in defense, aerospace, or regulated industries.
- Experience in cable and wire harness design, testing, troubleshooting, and system integration.
- Strong knowledge of electrical drawings, wire selection, connectors, shielding, and cable interfaces.
- Proficiency with CAD tools such as AutoCAD or equivalent.
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification or ability to obtain.
- Working knowledge of MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, MIL-STD-810, NFPA 70/NEC, and ASME Y14.100 standards.
- Strong technical communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- U.S. Citizenship required; eligible for a Secret security clearance.
- Extensive hands-on experience with military or aerospace cable/harness design and ruggedized systems.
- Deep understanding of EMI/EMC requirements and cable design practices.
- Experience developing automated test fixtures, RF cable design, and supporting complex military platforms.
- Skilled in mentoring, coaching, and providing technical guidance to engineering teams.
- Proficient in Altium, AutoCAD, MS Office Suite, and engineering documentation systems.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex electrical challenges and implement effective solutions.
- Work will be performed in office, laboratory, and field settings, requiring clear and effective communication with colleagues and customers.
- Physical requirements include the ability to work at a desk and in laboratory/field environments, read technical materials, operate laboratory equipment, and access multiple facility areas.
- Occasional travel may be required for project needs.
