Primary Care Medical Director (MD/DO) Position Overview
The Primary Care Medical Director (MD/DO) plays a pivotal leadership role within our health organization, offering both clinical expertise and administrative guidance to ensure the delivery of high-quality primary care services. This full-time position is based in Charlotte, NC, and involves oversight of multiple primary care clinics within the local market. The successful candidate will work closely with physician colleagues, maintain patient engagement through selective clinical practice, and provide strategic direction to the broader care team. This role is ideal for experienced, board-certified physicians who are passionate about transforming primary care and mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support primary care providers (PCPs) across 3-5 clinics in Charlotte, NC, ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care.
- Serve as a role model and mentor for clinical staff, fostering professional development and supporting a collaborative, inclusive care environment.
- Balance clinical duties with administrative responsibilities, including direct patient care as needed to support operational needs and growth objectives.
- Collaborate with executive leadership, including the Vice Presidents of Operations, to drive strategic initiatives and operational excellence across the market.
- Play an active role in the launch and continuous improvement of new clinics, including participation in pre-opening activities and ongoing oversight as the clinics mature.
- Provide input on organization-wide initiatives such as network development, specialty referrals, documentation and accurate coding, quality improvement (including HEDIS measures), utilization management, and clinical compliance.
- Champion patient engagement and community outreach efforts to improve health outcomes and strengthen relationships within the Charlotte, NC area.
- Support the company’s mission to transform primary care delivery, particularly for senior populations, by driving cultural alignment and effective communication throughout the clinics.
Qualifications
- Medical Degree (MD or DO) required.
- Board Certification in Internal Medicine (IM), Family Medicine (FM), or Geriatrics preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in value-based care (VBC) or managed care settings is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and lead diverse teams of healthcare professionals.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness to travel within the Charlotte, NC market to support multiple clinic locations as needed.
