Duties & Responsibilities
- Harvest veins for coronary artery bypass grafting and other cardiac surgical procedures with proficiency and precision.
- First assist surgeons during all open-heart operations, including preparing the operative field, suturing, and ensuring optimal patient safety.
- Deliver preoperative and postoperative surgical care, including performing assessments, managing admissions and discharges, and monitoring recovery in both ICU and general hospital settings.
- Participate in daily patient rounds, collaborate in treatment planning, and maintain detailed documentation in accordance with hospital protocols.
- Provide call coverage primarily for emergency room consults, ensuring timely response to urgent cardiac patient needs.
- Balance responsibilities between hospital (90%) and clinic (10%) settings, managing a caseload of approximately 10 patients per day, including admissions, ICU care, and surgical cases.
- Maintain effective communication with patients, families, and the healthcare team to facilitate seamless transitions of care.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Active Board Certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) is required.
- Current DEA registration is required for the administration and prescription of controlled substances.
- Valid Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of direct experience in cardiothoracic surgery, with demonstrated expertise in endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) and first assist duties.
- Active South Carolina State Licensure is preferred; candidates must be eligible to obtain licensure if not already held.
