Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) - Summary
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to deliver rehabilitative care in accordance with established treatment plans and state regulations. The PTA is responsible for assisting in the execution of therapy programs, monitoring patient progress, and providing education on the use of assistive devices and home exercise routines. This role emphasizes strong communication skills, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work independently within a supportive team environment. The position involves frequent travel to patients' homes within the designated coverage area, requiring reliable transportation and a commitment to high standards of care.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Promote the philosophy and mission of the healthcare organization to ensure consistent, high-quality care for all patients.
- Deliver direct physical therapy services in accordance with accepted standards of practice and as prescribed by the patient’s physician.
- Implement the Plan of Care established by the supervising Physical Therapist and update on any changes in patient status.
- Ensure compliance with State Practice Act Guidelines and all relevant regulatory requirements.
- Verify the Plan of Care prior to each patient visit and provide therapy according to physician orders, assessment findings, and established guidelines.
- Incorporate patient-specific goals into therapy sessions to maximize functional recovery and independence.
- Educate patients and family members or caregivers on the proper and safe use of prosthetic, orthotic, and assistive devices, including canes, walkers, and wheelchairs.
- Provide instruction and support for home therapy programs to empower patients and caregivers in continuing rehabilitation independently.
- Document all patient interactions, therapy interventions, and progress accurately and in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
- Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care and optimize patient outcomes.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association.
- Current, unrestricted PTA license valid for practice in the state of employment.
- At least 6 months of experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) preferred; new graduates with appropriate credentials may also be considered.
- Ability and willingness to travel within the service coverage area as required by patient caseload.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and up-to-date automobile insurance in accordance with state laws.
- Physical ability to lift and move up to 100 lbs as needed during patient care activities.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills; ability to use electronic medical records systems proficiently.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA and all applicable legal and ethical standards.
