Pain Management Physician (MD/DO, Pain Medicine) Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Pain Management Physician (MD/DO, Pain Medicine) to join our multidisciplinary team at Anesthesiology and Pain Consultants, located just outside Birmingham, AL. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a collaborative and supportive environment, providing high-quality care to patients dealing with various chronic pain conditions. As a Pain Management Physician in the Birmingham, AL area, you will play a crucial role in improving patients’ quality of life and helping them restore functionality and independence.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning for patients with acute and chronic pain disorders in a full-time clinical setting.
- Utilize a multidisciplinary approach, including interventional procedures and medication management, to address pain and related conditions.
- Work closely with a comprehensive support team, including nurses, medical assistants, laboratory staff, precertification specialists, front desk personnel, anesthesiologists, certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs), and physician assistants (PA-Cs).
- Manage a patient volume of approximately 20 patients per full day, delivering personalized and evidence-based care.
- Provide treatment for a variety of pain conditions, such as post-surgical pain, burning pain, peripheral and diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, neck and back pain, headaches and migraines, carpel tunnel syndrome, and disc-related disorders.
- Educate patients and their families about pain management strategies, treatment plans, and rehabilitation options.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate patient records in compliance with all legal and ethical standards.
- Collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure integrated and coordinated care for patients.
Qualifications
- Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree required.
- Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Pain Medicine or Chronic Pain is required.
- Completion of fellowship training in Pain Medicine is accepted, and new graduates or fellows are encouraged to apply.
- Residency training in Anesthesiology is preferred but not required. Candidates with Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) backgrounds will also be considered if board certified in Pain Medicine.
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in managing a broad spectrum of pain conditions using both interventional and medical management techniques.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Commitment to upholding patient-centered care and following the practice’s mission to safely and reasonably help patients find relief from chronic pain.

Working Hours
- Full-time schedule: Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Friday, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
